The Short Answer, and the Visa Catch
For the UK, take IELTS or PTE, not TOEFL. Here is the catch that trips up a lot of students. A UK student visa requires a Secure English Language Test, known as a SELT, from an approved provider. TOEFL is not on that list for visa purposes. So even if a university accepts your TOEFL for admission, it will not satisfy the visa.
IELTS (in its UKVI form) and PTE Academic are both accepted for the UK student visa, which is why they are the safe choices for the UK.

It helps to separate the two. Your university sets an English requirement for admission, and it may accept several tests. The UK visa sets its own requirement, and it is stricter about which tests count. You need to satisfy both, so choosing a test that works for the visa from the start saves you a second exam.
