Stage 2: Blending Sounds
Weeks 3 to 6- Blending two and three sounds

- Segmenting words back into sounds
- Building reading speed gently

Weeks 6 to 9- Sounds like sh, ch, th and oo
- Long vowel sounds
- Common tricky words
- Reading short sentences
Stage 4: Reading Real Words
Ongoing- Reading short stories aloud

Syllabus Questions
Does phonics really help reading?
Yes. Phonics teaches children the sound each letter makes so they can sound out and read new words on their own, rather than memorising them. It is the foundation strong readers are built on.
My child already knows some letters, is this still useful?
Absolutely. The tutor checks what your child already knows in the demo and starts from there, so nothing is repeated needlessly and the classes stay interesting and useful.
